Wilson's Creek

Wilson's Creek

1. This shallow creek is the center of this battle. It runs through a dip in the low hills of the area, not really a ravine in the Western sense. The Confederates were camped in open areas on both sides of the creek when they were surprised by a much smaller Union army led by Nathaniel Lyon. Rebel commanders were Sterling Price and Ben McCulloch.
